Introduction
PossiblyThe myself-hosted favouriteGuacamole upDocker app runs Apache Guacamole in containers using Docker.
Guacamole is a clientless remote desktop gateway – meaning you can access desktops and runningservers containerthrough isa Homebox.web Althoughbrowser notwithout needing special client software. It supports common protocols like:
-
RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol, Windows)
-
VNC (Virtual Network Computing, Linux/Unix GUI)
-
SSH (command line access)
Instead of installing separate clients, you log into Guacamole via a web UI, and it acts as the firstbridge.
How the mostDocker useful.setup Homebox is labelled as an inventory and organisation system built for the home user.
I can login to it on the laptop, tablet and mobile phone, to add or locate whatever.
The GithubGuacamole project provides official Docker images that Ilet basedyou myself-host it easily:
-
guacd
– the Guacamole proxy daemon that handles protocol connections (RDP, VNC, SSH). -
guacamole
– the web application that users log into. -

I have cupboards full of plastic boxespermissions, anddrawers.connectionA lot of stuff just gets thrown in the drawers and if I ever need something specific, it used to take me an age to find it.settings.Now,

. As long as I keep all my HDMI cables in the same bag, in the same location, it works perfectly.
I can even have a photo of all my items. I found that is not really necessary, but I do add photos using the phone, if I think it's necessary and I can be bothered.
I do list all my DVDs and CDs, just because I can and I can't bring myself to throw or give them away. There are probably better Docker Apps to do that, that will bring metadata as well, but I already have the list, if I want to use one of those. I don't ever have to open their respective boxes again. I just know they are there.
