First steps for my own server

Moving away from my Synology Apps, my first step was to decide how to set up my minipc. I wanted my own home server.

Youtube was my first step. Let's see how everyone else does it.

For my first introduction to the HomeLab eco-system, I decided on Proxmox, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Docker.

Proxmox is interesting to say the least. For someone who knew nothing about it, I had to follow Youtube tutorials for practically everything. Installation on the minipc was a breeze. There are a lot of "Wizard" installation guides for many Docker apps. Different ways of setting up containers and virtual machines. I stuck with it for about a month.

Ultimately though, I had difficulty moving my Containers from Synology to where I wanted them, there was difficulty with system permissions and I couldn't connect to the Synology NAS with any confidence. I didn't feel as if I was learning what I was doing, but just relying on others to tell me what I needed to do.

I scrapped everything and decided to reinstall, first Ubuntu, then Docker and Portainer as my GUI.
